Ham Radio Collectors - How to find what your searching for
Ham Radio and Antique Radio Collectors are growing in numbers. The old radios 00004000 from years ago become more valuable with age and the selection is getting smaller and smaller.
Collecting Ham Radio Equipment is much like collection old cars. Remember the first car you had and how you wish you could have another one just like it now? The same goes for Shortwave Radio's. Many Hams when they started in radio back in the 60's are now trying to rebuild their first stations.
Visiting Hamfests and Flea Markets is a good source for these old or as a Ham would call it, Boatanchor Radios" meaning heavy and tube type receivers and transmitters. Lots of people shop and search on ebay looking for the best bargin however you need to be careful with what you buy on ebay. Many sellers will sell things knowing they are not working so be ready to do a little repair work if you want to get some of them working. An easy and fast way to search for Used ham Radio is at www.hamradiofinder.com they have made it simple and easy to search for equipment. there are also many Ham Radio Classified sites on the internet and usually have new ads being posted everyday. My favorite site is www.hamkey.com because you can list what your searching for on their site and when someone lists what your seeking, their system will send you email within seconds of the item being listed. Its always nice to be the first one to respond to an ad for a very rare piece of equipment. I can't tell you how many times I have called on ads and were told it was sold just before I called. How I wish I was the first one to know it was posted.
No matter what your looking for you are sure to find it in todays worlds of ebay, online classified ads and all the flea markets operating around the country.
Have fun in your search for that old radio you used to operate.
Can a Yaesu FT-101E be modified to rx/tx on 2M/73CM HAM Bands?
Will be taking my Tech License for ham radio in a couple weeks. Wanting to know if my Yaesu FT-101E can be modified to receive/transmit on the bands a Tech license is allowed to transmit on? Thanks for any info you can supply.

what type of antenna connection does the Yaesu Ft-270 have?
I am looking for a mobile antenna to use with my yaesu FT-270. what type of antenna connection do i need?
where to get a user’s manual for a Yaesu Vertex vx-400u?
I’ve searched all over the web, Yaesu doesn’t seem to have any info on the uhf handheld, anybody know a place where I can download a manual for one? Again it is a Yaesu Vertex vx-400u
Yes, with transverters, but only on SSB or CW.
The transverter advice is correct, but if you want to work local repeaters they won’t help. The 101E doesn’t do FM, nor does it have CTCSS capability needed for repeater work. It will still be an inexpensive way to get on 6M SSB (one of my favorite bands in the summer!) and you can probably rig it for digital work on 10M (RTTY, PSK-31, etc)
And you can still work HF with your Tech license;
80 Meters Technician classes:
3.525-3.600 MHz: CW Only
40 Meters Technician classes:
7.025-7.125 MHz: CW Only
15 Meters Technician classes:
21.025-21.200 MHz: CW Only
10 Meters Technician classes:
28.000-28.300 MHz: CW, RTTY/Data–Maximum power 200 watts PEP
28.300-28.500 MHz: CW, Phone–Maximum power 200 watts PEP
There are 4 bands you can use on HF! (You didn’t specify phone only or if CW was ok too)
Apparently it has an sma antenna connector so you’ll need an sma-bnc adapter.

Hi jamla, HF, small area, ground floor, seems like a ground mounted vertical would be the best fit. You could buy one or do like I’ve always, make one yourself out of TV antenna mast. Use a Tuner and it’ll work on almost any band. Put a connector in the feed line and pass it through the window or door. You can disconnect when ur off air and no holes. You would just need 3 or 4 good gnd rods for the counterpoise. If you’re in the mind to build, a good book is the CQ Vertical Antenna Handbook. Please email me if you’d like to talk about antennas, or other stuff. 73 Charley ex WC2Z
